While JVK is killing it with her marathon training, I have set my sights a little lower (more realistic) on a 1/2 marathon. I was lucky enough to get into the BAA 1/2 Marathon and I’m excited/nervous about it. I’m a total lazy slowpoke but I’m trying to actually make an effort to pick up my pace for this race and see what kind of finishing time I can get. Whenever I think of 1/2 marathons I always think of my first at Lake Winnipesaukee for the Big Lake 1/2 Marathon in May of ’06 (I was 26 years old, just a baby!). I ran it with two of my best friends after training for months on the treadmill over the winter. That day was MISERABLE. About 55 degrees and torrential downpours and crazy wind. I thought I had lost my mind and ended up with the absolute worst chafing thanks to my soaking wet shorts and shirt. I came out of that race looking like someone had choked me with a full ring of blister around my neck and raw sore skin across both hipbones where my shorts rubbed as well as under my arms. Absolutely brutal but so rewarding at the same time. I finished that race in 2:16:46 and followed it up with a pretty plodding time in the BAA 1/2 a few months later in 2:23:50. I’ll be happy to just finish with a sub 10 minute mile pace which should be attainable.

Found a pic from that Big Lake race, cold and wet but happy! Note that my running buddy/bff in the middle is sporting a very class trashbag that she chose to run in.
